Religious Education in Schools
Why are there "Christianity" and "Roman Catholicism" separately?? As far as I know Christianity has several denominations and Roman Catholicism is one of them. Then why so many people here treat is as if it were some different religion? This is not the first nor the tenth poll that I've seen that divides Christianity and Catholicism, and it starts to be annoying.
I definitely see what you're saying Eruhin, but I can't think of a better way to ask if a specific denomination should be taught about, rather than the overall religion.
I do think, though, that question 7 is quite biased. The sentence "I am a bigot" should be removed from the first option. That is the poll maker's opinion, not the opinion of those who would select that option.
Ok, then I think there should be more options: "Christianity" as overall religion, and "Roman Catholicism", "Protestant", "Anglicanism", "Eastern Orthodox Church" etc. as specific denominations.
I agree that question 7 is biased, at least the first option.
It's possible that the pollster was trying to make the point that 'Catholics are not Christians.' (Their belief, not mine). I've seen this quite a bit among evangelical Christians. This may have been a 'dig.'
or perhaps an honest mistake.
I know a lot of people who think that Catholics are not Christians. Now that really isn't fair. There were Catholics before there were Protestants. (no one take this the wrong way - I'm not Catholic)
