Creationism and Evolution - True or False

False

Posted by danH52 on 2008-02-13 03:54:49

All of the lengthy arguments given here for creationism have been contradicted over and over again by a mountain of factual evidence. There is virtually no evidence whatsoever - NONE - supporting creationism, intelligent design, or whatever it has been re-branded as. It has failed every court challenge against evolution since the Scopes trial. And that didn't support creationism, either. (Scopes was found guilty of breaking a law against teaching evolution, and the verdict and the law itself were thrown out within a couple years.) Evolution is the best tested theory ever proposed. It is better understood than gravity except by those bible-thumping morons who flunked 4th grade science and dropped out of school.

As you would have seen in the other thread, I used the C14 data as support for a young earth. No one has EVER shown this data to be in error, contrary to your erroneous claim.

You seem to have much faith in the theory of evolution, do you mind sharing with me what evidence you think supports evolution?

Why do you call yourself wise old man - you show no evidence of wisdom just the unthinking zealot's desparate attempt to cling on to a tired old myth. Silly old man you are never going to change your mind or accept the truth. You can't accept the evidence which is abundant on this earth because you are too blinkered by your misplaced faith. You are not wise, just a sad silly man. I'd ask you to open your mind as well as your eyes but you won't because you can't. You pin your faith on a silly misunderstanding about carbon dating. I'm not even going to argue with you on that it just beggars belief that you even attempt to justify it.

The catholic church accepted evolution as scientific fact in the fifties although Pope JP 2 called it God's mechanism missing the point entirely. Creationism according to all leading religious thinkers is silly nonsense. to atheists and humanists like me it's an infuriating step back 2000 years in time.

Religion, creationism and intelligent design point to a sterile stagnant universe and are the lazy, unscientific man's get out clause. Humanity has been held back centuries in terms of scientic breakthroughs because of such sloppy thinking. It's time to break free of this nonsense once and for all and put an end to this twaddle. The universe is not sterile or stagnant but ever changing, ever evolving - you only need to look to see it.

Martin Luthor asked his flock to accept and not question for questioning was the enemy of faith. A bit of a cheek given what he actually did question but he was definitely on to something. A religion that can't stand up to inquiry is a false religion. A religion that denies scientific progress is a dead religion.

Well said! danH52 and Bjake. A bit of fresh air at last! With free thinkers like yourselves around, maybe there is hope for sanity and reason to prevail.

C14 dating does not prove a young earth. Several common creationist attacks on radiometric dating are refuted at this link: http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/list.html#CD along with many others. There are multiple methods of age dating that all show that the earth is very old - more than 4.5 BILLION years old. Radiometric methods have different applicability because of the different half-lifes of the isotopes used. C14 is very short and is never used for materials that are likely to be older than 50,000 years. C14 is generally applied to archaeological sites for that reason. If you pull your nose out of the Christian blogs and look at science instead, (hey - maybe take a geology class - now there's a thought!) you might learn something. This site gives a good intro to geologic time and radiometric dating: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/geotime/contents.html.
