Flying Spaghetti Monster VS intellegent design

What About Creationism?

I agree IDism isn’t a scientific theory, it raised good points, but it’s not a theory of origins. Creationism on the other hand is a very good scientific theory, and I see no reason why it should not be taught is schools (along side evolution), it explains more that the theory of evolution anyway.

Here are my thoughts on this issue. First, I am both a Christian and a Darwinist, and I see no conflict between the two. Darwinism explains the physical origins of life, while Christianity teaches us about the sacredness and meaningfulness of life. There is no need to choose between the two. Second, intellignt design should not be taught as science, because it is based on assumptions that cannot be scientifically tested - namely, that God intervenes in nature. Science classes should teach only those theories which can be objectively measured and tested. And finally, to my atheist sisters and brothers: I love you, and I respect your right to have your own beliefs. But could you please stop tossing around this simple-minded, irrelevant, worn-out cliche about the Flying Spaghetti Monster?! Faith in God is based on an intuitive belief that there is a moral order to the universe - that there is a cosmic power who calls on us to act with justice and compassion. You may choose not to make that leap of faith, but don't trivialize the question of God's existence by comparing it to belief in strange monsters.

Here is the conflict; The book of Genesis, and the Bible in general, makes it explicitly clear that God created the earth, and everything in it, in 6 DAYS. This is the straight forward reading of Genesis, to say that it means something else is to distort the Bible totally out of context, and if you are going to do this than you might as well cut-to-the-chase and just say that the Bible is pure fiction. And if you believe this, then why believe in a God at all when you have just rejected the main reason for belief in Him?

On the theological side; What kind of cruel and wicked god would use hundreds of millions of years of a malicious, kill-or-be-killed, cut-throat mechanism like evolution to bring about the existence of humans? God called the universe “Good” when He created it, clearly it was not Good if such suffering was the primary creation process!!! If God is truly an ALMIGHTY God, than what better way to demonstrate His awesome power than by creating the earth, and everything in it, instantaneously, step-by-step in 6 days? Why deny God this ability? He can’t be much of a God if He can’t do this as He said He did!

Anyway, why try and compromise with evolution? Creationism can explain the world around us much better! Check out the faq’s on this website; http://www.creationontheweb.com/

But the bible is a fairy story, god doesn't exist and Jesus is just a retelling of an older myth which appears in several different guises in Egyptian, Roman, Persian and other mythologies right down to twelve disciples, healing the sick, raising the dead, some were even crucified, all were killed nastily and rose from the dead and ascended to heaven to be with their fathers who in each case was the number one head honcho of heaven. All of them are myths.

Matt: you misunderstand the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

It's not mocking religious faith. It's mocking religious hubris.

Creationists want their particular creation myth, out of the thousands that exist or have existed worldwide, taught in the classroom as science, or at least given equal time along with evolution: "Teach the Controversy." Well, why theirs? Why not the Maya creation myth? Or the Norse creation myth? Or aboriginal Australian creation myths? Why make special pleading for Christianity?

So to drive the point home, some people invented a joke religion, and 'demanded equal time' in the classroom for it. A lot of people totally missed the point (or even underscored the point) by stating that the FSM cult is 'not a real religion.'

They aren't saying 'haha, you're so stupid, you believe in God.' They're saying something like 'haha, you're so stupid, you* don't see how silly you look claiming to be objectively right about something (God) that the world has never been able to agree on.'

*not you personally
