PET PEEVES
(sorry -- I accidentally deleted my other comment)
There is an epidemic of grown adults who apparently never learned basic spelling, grammar and punctuation rules that they should have learned (and maybe did but forget) back in elementary school!
I'm not talking about people who were born in another country and learned English as a second language. They have a valid reason. I'm talking about Americans who were born and raised here but who talk like they never passed 5th grade!
For example, most people don't seem to know the difference between "every day" and "everyday", which is so damn SIMPLE I don't understand how so many folks get it wrong. Also, there's "your" vs. "you're", "whose" vs. "who's", etc. And then there's the BIZARRE compulsion some folks feel to add an apostrophe when making a word plural. Again -- elementary school!! If you have one photo, you do not have two photo's! You have two photos! You only use an apostrophe to show possession. And I won't even get into how people can't spell their way out of a paper bag; that's truly pathetic, especially in this day and age of spellchecks!
sigh And yes, I actually do make my living correcting these boo-boos. I'm a proofreader/copy editor! ;D :)
