I've run several polls in the past on Mister Poll and love your service. I have promoted links in bulletins to my friends on MySpace.

When I went to do this on my latest poll and test the link, I got a MySpace message saying this site (Mister Poll) is a known source of viruses, phishing, and spam.

I was able to adjust the bulletin to not be an actual link.

Didn't know if you knew MySpace has done this. What can Mister Poll MySpacers do to help change this?

Oh, lovely. Of course we aren't a source of any of those things. Thank you for letting me know about this. I will see what I can find out from MySpace, so we can hopefully clear this up.

FYI, I confirmed that the links are being blocked by trying to create one myself. I just sent an email to MySpace's abuse team, asking them to back up their claims that Mister Poll is a dangerous site that participates in spam, phishing, or virus distribution. Unfortunately, I think the chances of them responding are slim. From what I have read elsewhere, they often use this blocking mechanism to censor sites they don't agree with politically or for any other reason. However, showing a message that tells the world we are dangerous is defamation in my view, unless they can back it up. I've asked them to do. If they have found some security hole we aren't aware of, they should tell us about it so we can fix it. I'm guessing that isn't the case, though.

We'll see.

I had a few very brief exchanges with MySpace support, and they said they were looking into this problem. I hadn't heard anything in about a week, so I decided to check again this morning. My test link from MySpace is now working, so it appears they did lift their ban. Yay!
